To mentor a class your dog has to have have graduated at least a beginners class. Usually a lead rank will teach classes also known as courses. If you complete a beginners class you are then qualified to teach a class if your as young as one, however you must have a rank in the pack.
If your dog has learned beginners class and intermediate class your dog can teach both of those classes now. For you to gain a apprentice your leader must assign one to you, which can be done in announcements or ceremonies depending on your pack and its rituals.
You can also teach all classes if you complete from beginning to advance courses. Extra classes can be taught by regular ranking dogs as well. The dog must, however, complete and pass the class(s).
The reason you are to sign up is because there are many packs and its way easier for the leaders to keep up with who can teach what classes. A topic should be made showing the classes and listed below who can teach that class. The letter "m" should be placed on a rank and member list to show who are mentors. The letter "a" should appear for apprentices and be erased when the student graduates unless they continue to take classes.
